Sky Sports: Liverpool make contact with £148m star ahead of possible move; FSG ready to pay big

Liverpool are reportedly in contact with a £148m footballer's representatives ahead of a possible massive move to Anfield in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool in need of a new striker
The Reds may currently be cruising towards the Premier League title, but that's not to say that Arne Slot won't be eyeing important signings in various areas of the pitch this summer.

Centre forward is surely a position that the Dutchman will be focusing on, with question marks surrounding the long-term worth of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunz and Diogo Jota currently.

Darwin Nunez warming up for Liverpool-1
Diaz has often been deployed centrally for Liverpool this season, with Cody Gakpo starring on the left wing, and while the Colombian has done well at times, he hasn't looked completely at home there. Now 28, there is a chance that the Merseysiders could look to cash in on him at the end of the season, with Chelsea and Barcelona believed to be interested.

Meanwhile, Nunez hasn't developed enough as a player in the three seasons since joining the Reds in 2022, too often proving to be wasteful in front of goal, and while Jota is arguably his side's best finisher when he is fit, he is sidelined through injury far too often.

Liverpool in contact with Isak's agents ahead of possible £148m move
According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool are in contact with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak's representatives over a stunning move to Anfield this summer. FSG are claimed to be ready to "break away from their usual strategies to score a huge blow",

The Reds will have to pay an eye-watering £148m to get their man, however, which would smash the club's transfer record by some distance, with the £85m paid for Nunez the current highest amount paid for a player.

Newcastle-Alexander-Isak
The prospect of Isak in a Liverpool shirt is mouthwatering, considering the Swede has stood out as one of Europe's top strikers this season.

The 25-year-old has been electric for Newcastle, scoring 19 goals in 24 appearances in the Premier League, one of which came in the 3-3 draw at home to the Reds back in December, when he thundered a finish past Caoimhin Kelleher. Alan Shearer knows a thing or two about what makes a top striker, and he hailed Isak last season, saying:

"He is confident and cool and believes in everything he is doing. We know that once he gets away over the top, he is going to cause you an absolute nightmare. His ability to link up and his understanding [is brilliant]. Everything about his game is of the highest quality. He has scored 19 goals in 23 games - that is a very, very good record."

Isak's price tag is clearly a potential stumbling block, considering spending £148m on any player is a risk, especially as the Sweden international has had injury problems, missing last week's trip to Anfield, for example.

If Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and Slot have genuine faith that he is the right option, though, and FSG are willing to sanction the move, he could be the next truly great striker for Liverpool.
