The Wait is Almost Over: Arsenal's Pursuit of 'Exceptional' £59m Talent Reaches Critical Stage as Groundwork is Laid

Arsenal have now done "a lot of the groundwork" to sign a "prolific" striker this summer, according to reliable reporter Charles Watts.
Gunners making moves for strikers
The Gunners have set their sights on a new striker in the summer, and they have now made their first move to sign Fiorentina's Moise Kean, contacting the Italian club to discuss the possibility of a deal for the Italian, who is protected by a £44m release clause.

Kean is more of a left-field target, with Mikel Arteta's side also being linked to some more high-profile names, and the manager is believed to be a big fan of Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, meaning a £101m bid for the 25-year-old may soon be on its way.

Some of the other major names on the shortlist are Inter's Marcus Thuram, as well as Napoli's Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, and there has now been an update on the north Londoners' pursuit of the latter player.

Writing for CaughtOffside, Watts detailed that while Isak is a target for Arsenal, it is more likely that Sesko ends up moving to the Emirates Stadium.

"It would take a monumental offer to tempt [Newcastle] into doing business for their prized asset and I just can't see Arsenal getting to a figure that would make Newcastle consider it.

"I've said it before and I still think that Benjamin Sesko is the far more likely option when it comes to a new striker coming in this summer.

"The club have done a lot of the groundwork when it comes to the Slovenia international and RB Leipzig will be open to doing business at the end of the season, unlike Newcastle."

"Prolific" Sesko impressing in Germany
The 21-year-old has picked up 17 goals in all competitions this season, while also displaying his ability to set up his teammates, having amassed five assists, most recently setting up Xavi Simons' goal in his side's 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund.

The Slovenian has also vastly outperformed his xG over the past year, averaging 0.59 non-penalty goals per 90 from an xG of 0.39, showcasing just how deadly the striker can be when given an opportunity in front of goal.

The youngster's "prolific" nature has been on show since arriving at RB Leipzig, while he also impressed during his time with Red Bull Salzburg, once scoring a seven-minute hat-trick.

As such, Sesko has undoubtedly earned a move to a top club, and it is exciting news that Arsenal could stand a good chance of getting a deal over the line, given Leipzig's willingness to cash in for around £59m.
