Timber, Calafiori, Saka: Arsenal injury latest after international break as 'strange' update given

Arsenal are back in action in less than a week, facing Fulham on Tuesday, April 1, and they now know in what kind of state their players will return from the final international break of the club season. The Gunners are all-but out of the title race, but they still have hope of winning the Champions League, albeit without a natural striker.

The Gunners face Fulham on the other side of the break, although they will get an extra break over the coming weekend first due to being out of the FA Cup, while the Cottagers face Crystal Palace in their FA Cup quarter-final. Arsenal are still without a number of key stars, and here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding the Emirates Stadium as the clash gets closer.

Gabriel Jesus
Jesus is out for the season and much of the calendar year after rupturing his ACL. A statement confirmed at the time: “Further to being substituted during our match with Man United, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the ACL in his left knee.”

Possible return date - November

Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu missed the first half of the season with a knee injury, and just as he looked like getting back to full swing, the issue resurfaced, requiring additional surgery. A statement read: “Despite an initial procedure, followed by a RTT, Tomi continued to have issues with his knee, resulting in a further corrective surgical procedure. He will now begin his rehab programme, which is expected to be completed towards the end of this year.”

Possible return date - October

Kai Havertz
Havertz suffered a serious hamstring injury during the February training camp in Dubai, and he will be out until the summer after surgery. Arteta said at the time: “We were having a great camp in Dubai recharging, training, having some time off and connecting again with nature in a different environment, and then the injury happened in a very unexpected way.”

Possible return date: June or July

Bukayo Saka
Saka is expected to return from his hamstring injury in mid-April. Arteta said before the break: “Yes, he's got a good chance [of returning in April]. He is going to be here [at London Colney], hopefully, more with the ball at his feet than he has had. He's getting closer; he's stepping up and making very good progress.”

Possible return date: April 15

Riccardo Calafiori
It’s difficult to give an accurate return date for Calafiori given the vague details given by Italy boss Spalletti on the injury, not that he seemed to know much himself. He said: “We don’t know about Calafiori. His knee feels strange, but he can’t answer the question of what he feels.”

Possible return date - April 1

Jurrien Timber
Timber withdrew from the Netherlands squad to face Spain in the Nations League quarter-finals through illness. But given how much time he has had to recover, Timber should be fit to return for Fulham.

Possible return date - April 1
