The victory allowed Arsenal to reduce the deficit at the top of the table to 12 points, and although this season’s title looks destined to head back to Anfield, the Gunners will be determined to make it as nervy an affair as possible by picking up as many points as possible in the remaining nine games.
Likewise, Arsenal will also want to build momentum in the league during their next two matches against Fulham and Everton as they prepare to face off with European champions Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.
Arsenal are yet to lose a competitive match against the Spanish champions and came out on top with a 1-0 aggregate victory in their only previous European meeting back in 2006 in the round-of-16 phase.
Arsenal defensive injury woes
Takehiro Tomiyasu - out. The Japan international defender is out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee. The 26-year-old has posted on social media: "I’ve had a surgery on my knee few days ago. I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again. It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support and see you again." Expected return date: 01/08/2025.
Riccardo Calafiori - out: Calafiori has shown signs of promise in his first year but has been limited to just 11 league starts, with Myles Lewis-Skelly emerging as first choice. The former Bologna man is currently nursing a knee injury and is being assessed ahead of a possible return in mid-April. Expected return date: 12/04/25.
Jurrien Timber - doubt: The Dutchman has missed a few training sessions through illness but is likely to be included in the team for Fulham. Expected return date: 01/04/25.
When is Bukayo Saka back from injury?
Gabriel Jesus - out: The Brazil star misses the remainder of the campaign with a serious ACL injury. A club statement read earlier this winter: “Further to being substituted during our match with Man United, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the ACL in his left knee.” Expected return date: 22/11/2025.
Kai Havertz - out: In a far from ideal situation, Arsenal are without both of their first choice strikers for the remainder of the season. While bizarely they also decided to sell rising striker Mika Biereth just weeks earlier.
Havertz sustained a hamstring injury during a warm weather training camp in Dubai which rules him out until the middle of pre-season. 'We were having a great camp in Dubai recharging, training, having some time off and connecting again with nature in a different environment, and then the injury happened in a very unexpected way,” said Mikel Arteta at the time. Expected return date: 21/07/2025.
Bukayo Saka - out: Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has arguably been the biggest injury miss of the season for the Gunners, whose dip in form has coincided with the winger’s injury. The England international, who has registered nine goals and 13 assists this season, has been missing since late January and still faces another few weeks at least on the sidelines. Arteta commented: “He's doing really well; he's feeling better day by day, but we have to respect the healing process... he has a lot of stages to go through in his rehab.” He could return for the second leg of the Real Madrid clash in the Champions League. Expected return date: 16/04/25.
Raheem Sterling - returns: Raheem Sterling was unable to face his parent club Chelsea last time out but return to contention for the Fulham test. The former Manchester City star has been a shadow of the player we have seen in recent seasons and is still waiting for his first league and European goal for the Gunners. He did, however, pick up two assists against PSV last time out in a slightly more positive update. Expected return date: 01/04/25.
