Why Arsenal now look set to ramp up their interest in Matheus Cunha ahead of transfer window

The Brazilian has enjoyed another top season with Wolves and currently has 15 goals to his name across all competitions.

Matheus Cunha has regularly stood out, and Wolves would be in serious trouble right now if not for his contributions.

One would imagine a number of clubs will be interested in triggering that clause – and Arsenal have been linked with Cunha for a while.

Now, there has been an update regarding their interest in the player.
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are currently considering two forward players for the summer.

One is Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.

And the other is Wolves number 10 Cunha.

Arsenal are said to be genuinely interested in Williams, who has a £48.9 million release clause.

While that is lower than Cunha’s, the Spaniard would apparently cost less overall than the Brazilian.

Interestingly, it is stated that Cunha is admired by the Gunners’ incoming sporting director Andrea Berta.

He believes Cunha’s profile would be a strong fit for Arsenal.

In another update that could well push Cunha to the Emirates, it’s claimed that Barcelona are also trying to sign Williams at the moment.

And very interestingly, Berta has actually been involved in Cunha transfers before. He took him from Hertha Berlin to Atletico, before then facilitating his move to Wolves.

Cunha disciplinary issues may cost him summer transfer
So it seems Berta really likes Cunha, and it’s very possible Arsenal could come calling.

But it’s also not out of the question that teams will be unwilling to pay the £62.5 million clause given Cunha’s antics this summer.

He has received two improper conduct charges in 2024/25 so far, and it’s expected that he will miss more games after the next match against West Ham.

It was recently claimed Mikel Arteta had reservations about Cunha’s temperament, so we’ll see if he’s able to overlook that this summer.
