Liverpool have already been linked with a few exciting signings heading into the summer transfer window.

Indeed, Liverpool need a new left-back, and the Reds have been linked with a few exciting options in that position already.

The Fulham ace has a soft spot for Liverpool, in fact, Robinson has praised Liverpool fans recently.

Now, speaking to Fulham’s media team, Robinson has admitted that he would always wear Liverpool shirts as a kid.

The left-back says that he was often wearing Liverpool kits when he was very young, but the first shirt he remembers actually getting is Real Madrid.

“What was the first football shirt?” Robinson was asked..

“I’m thinking about like family album photos, there are pictures of me when I was really little wearing Liverpool kits, that’s where I’m from, but the first one I remember is Real Madrid,” Robinson said.

Why does Antonee Robinson play for the USA?
Robinson grew up in a Liverpool-supporting family on Merseyside, and when you listen to him speak, you can hear that Scouse accent coming through.

So, why does the left-back play international football for the USA?

Robinson qualifies to play for the US via his father who was raised in New York, earning American citizenship.

Robinson explained his decision to play for the USA over England to Fulham’s official website.

“When I was younger coming through Everton’s academy, I was quite a late developer, so I wasn’t at the forefront of the players who were getting called up for England,” Robinson said.

“I remember there were lads coming through my team like Jonjoe Kenny and Ryan Ledson who, from the age of like 15, were playing for England. And I was never considered by any international team.

“The first call-up I got was for the US for an Under-18 camp when I was 16 or 17. That spurred me on to think that this was a massive opportunity and it gave me a massive confidence boost, so I decided that this was the team I wanted to commit to.

“It’s where my Dad grew up. When he was young they moved to White Plains, New York, and then he went to college at Duke in North Carolina. My grandmother moved out there with him. She’s Jamaican but lived in America for the rest of her life.”

Robinson may be a US international, but, make no mistake about it, he has strong ties to Liverpool, and that may well play a part in his decision-making this summer.
