Ramsdale, who sees his contract at St. Mary's Stadium expire in June 2028, has featured 23 times in the Premier League this season, keeping just two clean sheets while conceding 54 goals. Despite his best efforts, he failed to steer Southampton to safety.
The England international was between the sticks when Spurs confirmed the Saints' relegation from the English top flight. Tottenham, who haven't impressed either this term, stormed past Southampton at the weekend, putting three past Ramsdale.
The Saints became the earliest team ever to be relegated from the Premier League, sealing their demotion with seven games to go. Ivan Juric has since stepped down as head coach, with Simon Rusk and Adam Lallana taking the wheel until the end of the season.
Unsurprisingly, Ramsdale's transfer value has continued to plummet. According to Transfermarkt, the Englishman is currently priced at €16m (£13.7m) in today's market, which is a 60 per cent decrease from €40m (£34.3m) in June 2023.
Ramsdale was valued at €40m (£34.3m) at the end of the 2022/23 season after helping Arsenal mount their first title charge under Mikel Arteta. The shot-stopper made some crucial saves throughout the campaign, taking the Gunners within just five points of Manchester City.
Eager to snatch the reigning champions' crown, Arteta replaced Ramsdale with David Raya. The Englishman was dropped, featuring just six times in the Premier League during the 2023/24 season.
According to Transfermarkt, Ramsdale's market value has plummeted ever since, dropping to €32m (£27.4m) in October 2023 and €25m (£21.4m) by May 2024. This figure continued to fall during his spell at Southampton before recently reaching a new low.
Ramsdale marked his third relegation to the Championship – with a third different club – with a post on Instagram. The former Arsenal goalkeeper wrote: "A very hard day & tough one to take.
"This is a special club with amazing fans - we are sorry that it has ended like this. You deserve better. This club has come back from adversity on many occasions and this time will be no different.
"Still a lot of football to be played and we will keep trying to salvage positives from what has been an extremely difficult season. Thank you for sticking with us."
Arsenal signed Ramsdale from Sheffield United in August 2021 for an initial £24m. Edu, who has since left the Emirates Stadium, managed to recuperate the fee the North Londoners paid.
This has since proven to be an excellent piece of business from the former Arsenal sporting director, with the shot-stopper now valued well below his transfer fee. Ramsdale was one of Edu's final pieces of business – and his decision has been vindicated...
