Arsenal transfer bombshell emerges just a day after Premier League title setback

Flamengo have confirmed their interest in Arsenal midfielder Jorginho.

The former Chelsea star and his fiancee, Catherine Harding, were spotted in Rio de Janeiro during the international break as speculation grows over his future at Mikel Arteta's side. The 33-year-old has made just 16 appearances in the Premier League this season and is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
And Flamengo technical director Jose Boto has confirmed that the Brazilian club are interested in doing a deal for the former Napoli man. He states that the decision is now down to Jorginho himself.

“We never deny that he is a player that interests us," Boto told FlaZoeiro via Coluna Do Fla. "We are in a negotiation process and, as I said, I never reveal anything about a negotiation process.

"And what comes out in public, 99% of the time is not true. The ball is in his court, Jorginho’s, and he will treat it well and will play this game with us,”

Although movements have suggested that a move to Flamengo is very much on, Jorginho's agent Santos won't start talks with Arsenal and other interested clubs until after Tuesday, April 15.

Jorginho has also recently opened up on a possible switch to Brazil. Asked if he was hopeful of joining Flamengo, he replied: "We'll see what happens. There is [plenty of time]."

He was then quizzed if he was going to speak to [Jose] Boto. "Good question, good question. I came here on holiday," he added.
