'My understanding': Journalist shares what he's been told about Thomas Partey's injury before Real Madrid second-leg

Arsenal have been left sweating over the fitness of Thomas Partey after the midfielder went off with an injury issue in their 1-1 draw with Brentford.

Partey was a key player in the first-leg against Real Madrid and also scored against Brentford, so losing such a big player before their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu would be a huge blow.

The 31-year-old was taken off after 69 minutes against the Bees, raising concerns that he may have suffered a potential injury issue.

Ahead of their Champions League clash with Madrid on Wednesday, Arsenal sources have revealed what the latest is with the midfielder.

Arsenal not too concerned by Thomas Partey’s injury after Brentford
Arsenal are not too concerned by Thomas Partey’s injury at this early stage, according to journalist Charles Watts.

The Gunners are insisting that his withdrawal against Brentford was a precaution and they did not want to take any chances ahead of their Champions League clash.

Watts told his YouTube channel: “From my understanding, and it’s very, very early days, initially is that it’s precatuition and there isn’t too much concern that it’s going to affect him playing against Real Madrid in midweek.

“Thomas Partey would definitely start against Real Madrid if he was fit, so if he was out it would be a major, major blow to Arsnela – the way he was playing in the first-leg.

“But yes, my understanding and very initial prognosis of why Thomas Partey went off is that he felt something a little bit worrying and they didn’t want to take any chances.”
