Sensationally, the Gunners have managed to position themselves in a strong position in their Champions League quarter-final against the reigning holders thanks to a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium. In one night, Mikel Arteta's side have managed to transition themselves from slight underdogs to favourites to advance to the semi-finals.
Without getting ahead of themselves too much, Arsenal know that if they win the Champions League they could attract a better calibre of player to their squad. In our latest look at the media headlines, we observe how the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres is going - a player who could be swayed by Arsenal's achievements this season.
Gyokeres future 'confirmed'
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gyokeres will be leaving Sporting at the end of the season but his next club is still to be decided. Romano understands that the Swede could be available for as little as £55m after reaching a verbal understanding with his current employer.
The 26-year-old is reportedly still a target for Manchester United but that is not seen as a 'done deal'. Romano added that Arsenal still have hope of completing a transfer for Gyokeres.
What FL says: At £70-£85m, which had been rumoured as a price tag previously, Arsenal would have been right to stay away. However, at £55m over a five-year contract, that appears to be worth the gamble. A whopping 87 goals in 94 appearances is not to be sniffed at regardless of the level where those goals were scored. A centre-forward is not the only position that the Gunners want to strengthen this summer so the cheaper they can get a deal done the better.
Arsenal braced for new Napoli bid
According to CaughtOffside, Napoli are ready to reignite their interest in Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior this summer. The Italian giants were thought to be keen on the defender in January but a deal could not be reached.
However, the Gunners are thought to be ready for another Kiwior approach at the end of the season.
What FL says: Kiwior is in a tricky position at Arsenal as he is unlikely to be first choice at centre-back unless there is an issue to one of Gabriel Magalhaes or William Saliba. Currently, Gabriel is the man who is out and that is allowing the 25-year-old an opportunity which he took with both hands on Tuesday night against Real Madrid. Those performances will only increase his price tag for potential suitors and if a bid of £30m was to be submitted, that could be a tempting proposition for both Arsenal and Kiwior.
