‘Advanced talks’ underway: Man Utd step up efforts to agree £40m deal on Monday

Manchester United are in the process of negotiating Rasmus Hojlund’s move to Napoli, with a deal now looking imminent.

Ben Jacobs claims that the two teams are engaged in “advanced talks” and direct communication in an effort to come to a quick agreement.

According to the potential agreement, Hojlund would join the Serie A winners on loan for the duration of the current campaign before joining them permanently the following summer. United paid £64 million up front to get him from Atalanta two years ago, with the promise of an extra £8 million in add-ons. Napoli’s purchase obligation is anticipated to be approximately £40 million.

Rasmus Hojlund concedes he has to leave United prematurely

When Benjamin Sesko arrived, Hojlund was practically backed into a corner to leave Old Trafford, even though he had gone inside the window with no intention of leaving at all.

Ruben Amorim and United officials told the Dane that although he wouldn’t be ejected without his will, he would be playing a much smaller part if he chose to stay. He reluctantly opened the door to a move as a result.

After Romelu Lukaku’s injury setback, AC Milan was considered the favorite for a few days before Napoli entered the race. It should come as no surprise that Hojlund preferred a transfer to the Scudetto winners, where he would rejoin former teammate Scott McTominay.

To make sure the 22-year-old didn’t suffer any injuries while getting ready to leave, Amorim decided to leave him off of his matchday squads for the first two games of the season.

Hojlund departs with a record of 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances, assuming that this is his last game with the Reds.
