Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea transfer agreed as Man Utd include special clause

Alejandro Garnacho, a winger for Manchester United, has agreed to a £40 million deal with Chelsea ahead of Monday’s summer transfer deadline. After weeks of heated talks with their Premier League opponents, it appears like the Blues will finally land one of Enzo Maresca’s primary targets.

After turning down serious offers from Saudi Pro League teams, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and Napoli, Garnacho will sign a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge. He may be unveiled during Saturday’s Premier League home game against Fulham after completing his Chelsea medical on Friday.

In the midst of his exile from Ruben Amorim’s team, Chelsea first sought to pay no more than £30 million, while United valued him at £50 million.

Since then, the clubs have reached an agreement on a fixed fee of £40 million, and United has added a 10% sell-on clause to the agreement.

Garnacho will follow fellow wingers Jamie Gittens and Estevao through the arrivals suite as Maresca’s eighth summer acquisition.

After graduating from United’s academy, the 21-year-old made 93 Premier League games, tallying 10 assists and 16 goals.

With his incredible overhead kick against Everton in November 2023, he won the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award. Under Erik ten Hag, he also won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

When it comes to academy graduates, Garnacho’s move to Chelsea is United’s largest-ever sale. As a result, his £40 million sum will be recorded as pure profit, which will significantly increase PSR.

In the lengthy history of the Red Devils, it ranks as the fourth-largest transfer fee after Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, and Angel Di Maria.

When the summer transfer window closes at 7 p.m. on Monday, Garnacho won’t be the last player to depart Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund is close to joining Napoli on a season-long loan; if they win the Champions League, they will be required to pay £39 million to purchase him.

After negotiations heated up in recent days, Antony is also anticipated to return to Real Betis permanently.

Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho, who have joined Garnacho and Antony as exiles from Amorim’s team, will also depart in the meantime.

More departures could make it easier for United to get a goalkeeper and a midfielder before the deadline.
