Andre Onana’s Man Utd career hits new low as brutal reason Premier League club rejected transfer emerges

Andre Onana’s dream move to Manchester United has turned into a nightmare – and a new low has now emerged.

As League Two team Grimsby Town eliminated the Red Devils from the Carabao Cup in the second round, the Cameroonian goalkeeper was responsible for another goal.

In the 30th minute of the game, he missed a cross, giving Tyrell Warren an open goal and giving the Mariners a 2-0 lead.

Harry Maguire and Bryan Mbeumo brought United back to parity, but their goalie’s situation would only worsen.

After a flurry of penalty kicks, Grimsby maintained their composure to win 12–11, despite Onana’s terrible performance in the next penalty shootout.

Despite reportedly spending £47.2 million to move from Inter Milan to Old Trafford, the Cameroon international has had a difficult time establishing himself.

The 29-year-old made his first appearance of the 2025–2026 season against Grimsby, and he is now being linked to a move away from the 20-time Premier League champions.

Luckily for Ruben Amorim’s team, there are other Premier League teams that are having problems with their goalkeeper.

After giving up 11 goals in their first three games of the season, West Ham has also been linked to a new number one.

They were defeated 5-1 by London rivals Chelsea after losing 3-0 to Sunderland on the first day of the Premier League season.

They were then eliminated from the Carabao Cup after losing to Wolves 3-2, which only made matters worse.

While Mads Hermansen, a summer acquisition, underperformed in the two league games, Alphonse Areola began in goal in the cup.

The Hammers might try to recruit Onana to solve their goalkeeping problems, according to press reports.

The Daily Mail, however, now holds a different opinion.

According to the English tabloid, Graham Potter’s team rejected the chance to recruit the former Inter and Ajax great because they thought he was no better than their current crop of goalkeepers.

Hermansen arrived at the London Stadium for a reported £18 million from Leicester City this summer, but the East London club is apparently still in the market for a goalkeeper.
