Barcelona block player from leaving after ‘dizzying’ offers from Man Utd and Chelsea

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick personally intervened to block the possible departure of one of his players following big-money bids from Manchester United and Chelsea.

This summer, a few players have departed Barcelona, including Pau Victor, Clement Lenget, Pablo Torre, and Inigo Martinez, who joined Al Nassr of the Saudi Pro League after mutually agreeing to end his contract.

Additionally, it has been revealed that the La Liga winners were thinking about letting go of Fermin Lopez, a La Masia product who is still being linked to a move.

Indeed,’many voices’ within Barca’s hierarchy were eager to formalize a deal after Chelsea and Manchester United offered ‘dizzying’ offers of around £69.3 million for Lopez. This would have taken care of all salary limit difficulties.

“There was intense internal debate at Barca about the advisability of accepting this deal,” a report from Sport says.

Given Lopez’s position on the team, many board members wanted to start a conversation, but manager Hansi Flick blocked his departure since he was desperate to retain the Spanish midfield player.

Following his personal intervention in negotiations, Flick’s actions were pivotal, as Barca formally rejected the Premier League clubs’ proposals. The athlete will stay with Barcelona past this summer.

What has Lopez said about his Barcelona future?

The 22-year-old midfielder, who finished the previous season with eight goals in 46 games for Barcelona, recently asked supporters to “rest easy” about his future with the Catalan team.

“I want to stay here,” he told Mundo Deportivo. “It’s my dream and I’ll stay. I’m happy to help the team.”

Lopez added: “Many things have been said, but I’m going to continue defending these colours and working as hard as anyone. The fans can rest easy.”

According to reports, a Saudi Arabian club made an offer last month that was comparable to what Chelsea and Manchester United paid, but Lopez rejected the transfer.
