The draw for the third round of the 25/26 Carabao Cup has been made on the back of Grimsby Town vs Manchester United.
The season’s first big trophy made a comeback this week as Premier League teams competed in the Carabao Cup.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brentford, and Burnley were among the teams that moved to the next round on Tuesday night.
Top flight teams like Sunderland and Leeds United, however, lost to lesser league opponents.
On Wednesday night, League Two team Grimsby defeated Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils on penalties, resulting in an embarrassing loss.
The Mariners won 12-11 (2-2 after 90 minutes) to guarantee their berth in the third round, but Bryan Mbeumo missed the vital spot kick.
In addition to Grimsby, Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Fulham secured their spots in the following round.
Grimsby’s heroics against United have earned them a tie with Sheffield Wednesday, a Championship team who eliminated Leeds on Tuesday.
Newcastle, the current champions, will play Bradford City at St. James’ Park.
Liverpool, the Premier League champions and last season’s beaten finalists, will host Southampton from the Championship at Anfield.
Additionally, there are some Premier League matches, with Brentford hosting Aston Villa and Everton playing Wolverhampton Wanderers.
