‘Conversations’ – The late Man United and Brighton swap deal that makes perfect sense for both clubs

All the latest transfer news and gossip from Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League

Earlier in the summer season, Manchester United made a strong push to buy Carlos Baleba, a midfielder, but Brighton maintained their valuation.

For their 21-year-old Cameroon international, the Seagulls are asking for “Moises Caicedo”-style compensation, which is more than £100 million. Any possible deal appeared to fall through because United was not ready to meet that amount throughout this window.

Albion’s opening Premier League games against Fulham and Everton were started by Baleba, who battled a knee injury during the preseason. Following 69 minutes of action in the 1-1 draw with Fulham, he was benched at halftime during the 2-0 loss to Everton for “tactical reasons.”

Albion’s manager, Fabia Hurzeler, was obviously disappointed by Baleba’s lackluster performance at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but he swiftly denied that the worrying transfer rumors were to blame.

Hurzeler then discussed players being in “comfort zones” and the necessity of exerting more effort to overcome a bad start, without mentioning Baleba.

Although Baleba is under contract with Brighton until 2028, with an additional year’s option, he was said to be open to a move to Old Trafford earlier this month. Hurzeler reiterated that he is “very confident” that his midfield player would remain with Everton beyond the transfer window when asked about Baleba’s future there.

Brighton ‘open talks’ reports

But according to reports this week, Brighton and United have “opened talked” about a possible transfer for Kobbie Maino. The 20-year-old England international is reportedly eager to consider his options because he is not in favor with Ruben Amorim.

“The situation will be clearer in the next 24 to 48 hours,” stated transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel.

“Manchester United will speak with Kobbie Mainoo in order to comprehend the circumstances.

“Kobbie Mainoo isn’t necessarily leaving Manchester United because of this.

Therefore, we must wait to watch how these discussions unfold before we can gain a better understanding. At this point, nothing has progressed or become tangible.

Mainoo and Baleba swap deal verdict

There has been much discussion about a possible trade deal, and some supporters are thrilled by Brighton’s rumored interest in Mainoo. It almost makes sense, Baleba to United and Mainoo to Brighton.

However, football is rarely that simple, particularly when both players have large contracts and agents. On the surface, it looks like a very difficult transfer to complete thus late in the window before it ends on September 1.

Although I believe Manchester United will make a comeback for Baleba in the summer, nobody can predict what will happen to Mainoo in the interim.

It’s highly unlikely at this stage that Mainoo will be at the Amex… even if it is a deal that looks good on paper and appeals to the fans.
