Victor Lindelof, a former teammate from Old Trafford who is in talks to join Fiorentina, may surprise David de Gea by returning to Manchester United.
After 12 years with United, the 34-year-old De Gea left the team in June 2023. De Gea made 545 games during that period and won several awards, including the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League.
Following the expiration of his contract, De Gea left United as a free agent. Despite rumors that he could relocate to Saudi Arabia and start playing again right away, the former Atletico Madrid goalie missed a significant amount of action. De Gea didn’t really sign with another team for over a year until August 2024, when he joined Fiorentina in Serie A.
In his debut season in Florence, the Spaniard showed promise by recording 11 clean sheets and giving up just 50 goals in 42 games. De Gea received a new three-year deal at La Viola as a reward for his excellent performances.

Lindelof would complete a reunion with former United teammate De Gea if he relocated to Florence. Between 2017 and 2023, the pair performed together at Old Trafford for six years. The Reds had some success during that time thanks to Lindelof and De Gea, who won the Carabao Cup in their last season in Manchester.
After eight years of service, Lindelof left United at the end of the previous season. He made 284 appearances for the team, winning two major championships and solidifying his place in the starting lineup.
However, Lindelof left United when his contract ended in June after struggling for consistent playing time when Ruben Amorim was hired in November. “Yeah, I am proud of myself,” he remarked following his last Reds game in May. There have been many highs and lows. But it’s been a dream come true, an honor, and a privilege for me to be able to represent this club for eight years.”
