David Ornstein shares late-night Man Utd bombshell on £60m star after ‘meeting’

Journalist David Ornstein has disclosed that Kobbie Mainoo has communicated to Manchester United his desire to go on loan before to the transfer deadline.

After being benched for United’s opening two Premier League games by Ruben Amorim, the England international is reportedly eager to go in search of consistent minutes in the final days of the summer transfer window.

In a meeting with United on Thursday, Mainoo stated that while he has no intention of cutting his ties with the team, his current circumstances are preventing him from advancing in his football career.

Ornstein claims United have made it clear to Mainoo they will not be sanctioning his temporary move and expect the £60m-rated midfielder to continue to fight for his place in Amorim’s first-team squad.

Mainoo was an unused substitute in United’s first two league games but started the Carabao Cup second-round defeat against League Two side Grimsby on Wednesday.

Mainoo Wants to Leave Man United

In an article on X, Ornstein disclosed that United does not want to let go of Mainoo before the deadline and anticipates the 20-year-old staying and fighting for his spot this season:

This summer, Mainoo was strongly connected to leaving Old Trafford, and Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen were keeping a close eye on his ambiguous status with the club.

A deal is said to have been too costly for the former Bundesliga champions, although Erik ten Hag, who was named Leverkusen’s new manager prior to the season, was allegedly eager to work with Mainoo again.

Ten Hag gave Mainoo his Premier League debut in November 2023, and the Dutch manager made him a regular before firing him in October of last year.

The England international featured consistently for Amorim after he took charge in November, before a muscular injury sidelined him for almost two months in February.

Mainoo made 37 appearances across all competitions for United last season, scoring twice and assisting once in the Europa League.
