The Red Devils meet Grimsby Town of League Two in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night after beginning the season with a loss to Arsenal and a draw at Fulham.
Along with youthful left-back Diego Leon, United signed Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko this summer. Senne Lammens, the goalkeeper for Royal Antwerp, is also the subject of an advanced deal.
Due to their financial predicament, United will have to offload a number of players over the course of the next six days in order to make ends meet after losing out on European football. In order to save United about £14 million, Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan with a buyout option. But players like Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are still with the team.
The latter is expected to join Chelsea this week, however.
Rasmus Hojlund exit could be sealed soon
Striker Rasmus Hojlund is another player who is getting close to leaving. According to an update posted on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano stated: “Rasmus Hojlund’s negotiations with Napoli are moving very quickly and could be completed soon.”
Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli is progressing and might be here very soon. “Loan with an option to buy, to become mandatory under certain conditions, like qualification to the Champions League, goals, presence of the player, appearances, so several things to clarify.”
“So, talks are in progress for that one. Watch that story closely because it will be fascinating for the next few hours, but Hojlund may be leaving Manchester United shortly.”
Since Sesko arrived, Hojlund has not been included in the team for either of United’s first two games, as the Danish international appears to be surplus to needs.
Although a loan is not as beneficial to the Red Devils as a permanent departure, a conditional purchase agreement will increase the likelihood that a permanent departure will be finalized next summer.
Hojlund had been linked to Fulham and AC Milan, but Napoli is in a strong position to close a deal. Darwin Nunez was previously a target for the Serie A team, which has been searching for a new striker this summer.
Because Liverpool and Napoli couldn’t agree on a transfer cost, the Uruguayan chose to join the Saudi Pro League instead. The Red Devils, who want to get rid of Hojlund before the window closes, might stand to gain from it.
