Shortly after the Red Devils reached a personal agreement with the player, Fabrizio Romano provided a forceful update on rumors that Manchester City would sabotage a transfer from Manchester United.
Despite spending a lot of money this summer, neither Manchester team is done in terms of arrivals. Both Manchester United and Manchester City are looking to add a goalie, and according to a Sun report, the two teams have decided on the same candidate.
It’s no secret that if Ederson departs for Galatasaray, Man City want to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma. Man Utd, on the other hand, has reached a personal agreement with Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp after expressing disapproval of the expenses associated with signing Donnarumma.
However, according to the Sun, Man City has become a rival to Manchester United’s pursuit of Lammens. Ahead of United’s September 14 trip to the Etihad, their article said: “And now dreaded rivals Man City have entered the race for Lammens, so that could be one to watch.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to YouTube to address the rumors and provide clarification.
Romano maintained that there was no connection between the City and Lammens. In addition to the favorable report regarding United’s efforts to reach a club-to-club agreement with Antwerp, City is primarily interested in Donnarumma.
“Man City have been linked with a move for Senne Lammens,” began Romano. “Guy’s I’m not aware of that, Man City never moved for Senne Lammens.
“Why? Because Man City want to go for Donnarumma. City want to sign Donnarumma IF Ederson goes to Galatasaray.”
Romano continued: “The negotiations between Man Utd and Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens are advancing very well.
“Very good negotiations, the package requested is €20m. There is a negotiation ongoing on deal structure and fee, still not a done deal between the clubs.
“It’s agreed with the player because Lammens already said yes to Manchester United. The arrival of Lammens – if it happens – doesn’t mean that Andre Onana is going to leave Man Utd.”
Any other incomings at Old Trafford?
In addition to Lammens, Man Utd want to acquire a central midfield player.
Brighton made it clear to United that Carlos Baleba, who United was willing to spend the rest of their resources on, would not be joining another team this summer.
In order to make sure Amorim isn’t taken off guard, a new midfield player may arrive in the closing days of the current transfer window. Manchester United plans to revisit a move for Baleba in 2026.
Adam Wharton’s interest in United has been often covered by TEAMtalk. According to sources, the elegant 21-year-old Crystal Palace star is now United’s “dream” target because Baleba will be out for at least another year.
This is consistent with a recent Independent story that claimed United’s long-term objective is to pitch a potent and destructive midfield duo of Wharton and Baleba.
A deal won’t be simple, though, mainly since Crystal Palace is about to lose a number of other well-known players.
Marc Guehi and Liverpool have already reached a personal agreement, and Eberechi Eze is ready to join Arsenal. According to Romano, the agreement is on, and club-to-club talks over the transfer fee and deal structure are still going on.
