In the last week of the summer transfer window, Manchester United and Royal Antwerp are still negotiating a deal for the signing of goalkeeper Senne Lammens. During the summer, Ruben Amorim gave priority to attacking reinforcement, but he also wants to increase his goalkeeping alternatives for the remainder of the season.
Altay Bayindir may be benched after his mistake gave Arsenal the victory at Old Trafford on the first weekend of the season, and Andre Onana is back in the United squad for Sunday afternoon’s trip to Fulham. Although Amorim stated that he was satisfied with the goalkeeping options available to him, negotiations have advanced for Lammens to join the team prior to the deadline.
After United made a first offer to buy the 23-year-old for €17 million plus an additional €3 million in add-ons, Antwerp is reportedly seeking a €25 million package. Lammens is eager to transfer to Old Trafford and compete for the starting position, and talks have continued throughout the weekend.
Romano issues Lammens update
deal guru Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the Senne Lammens deal in his most recent YouTube video, reiterating that Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United will not expire as a result of the move.
“Manchester United remain focused on the opportunity to bring in a new goalkeeper before the end of the window,” he stated. “Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp is the player they are looking for. According to what I understand, the player is eager to join Manchester United, and on Saturday, he made new contact with both Antwerp and Manchester United. The two clubs are currently in communication; a deal has not yet been finalized, but progress is being made.
“The agreement with the player is okay, club to club negotiating. They started at €17 million plus €3m in add ons. Now Antwerp are asking for something close to €25m. So there is negotiations ongoing on the transfer fee and the details of the deal. Conversations are ongoing for Senne Lammens to go to Manchester United.
“Let me explain again, that Lammens to Man United doesn’t mean that Andre Onana is leaving because he remains an important player for United and there are no concrete negotiations taking place. At the moment the situation has not changed.”
