Forget Baleba: Man Utd agree terms to sign ‘phenomenal’ star, he’s more important [view

Senne Lammens, a goalkeeper, has agreed to terms with Manchester United; this agreement is significantly more significant for the team than any involving Carlos Baleba.

As Ruben Amorim tries to mold the team in his image, the Red Devils have shown interest in both players during the transfer window. He has already been active in the market, acquiring Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha. However, he is not finished and has his sights set on Lammens and Baleba.

However, it was recently rumored that they would not be signing the former because they were unwilling to pay Brighton’s asking price for the midfield player. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, United has made progress in negotiations to sign Antwerp’s Lammens, and the parties have now agreed on terms.

It was much more crucial that they acquired Lammens, who they are set to do, even though they would have liked to sign both players this summer because they were in dire need of a goalie.

United Need Lammens More Than Baleba

Even though the 2025–26 season is only in its early stages, it is already abundantly clear that United needs a new goalie. Since joining the Red Devils in 2023, Andre Onana has been a letdown. After missing preseason activity due to a hamstring injury, Altay Bayindir replaced him in the starting lineup for the season’s first match against Arsenal.

Amorim’s squad fell 1-0 because the Turkish goalkeeper wasted his chances in the starting lineup and contributed to the Gunners’ goal. Roy Keane publicly criticized him after the occurrence, which brought attention to how urgently United needs to find a new goalkeeper.

Lammens is the individual they have determined is the best candidate for the position. He joined Antwerp in 2023 and has since emerged as a vital member of the Belgian team, excelling in goal. The 23-year-old, who has already accepted a potential transfer, is still young, has been called amazing, and is apparently eager to move to Old Trafford this summer.

It was much more crucial for United to sign Lammens and make sure he gets a goalkeeper through the transfer window before it closes because Brighton is pushing too hard for a deal and asking for a price that the Red Devils are unwilling to pay after spending almost £200 million this summer.

Baleba is an excellent midfield player, but with players like Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro already signed at Old Trafford, the team needs a goalkeeper more than a midfielder at the moment. Although it may be disappointing for supporters to lose out on the Brighton player now, they can relax knowing that the player they need more is supposedly on his way.
