Gareth Southgate has made his feelings clear on replacing Ruben Amorim at Man Utd as odds slashed

Gareth Southgate has already made his feelings clear on returning to management amid links with the Manchester United job.

Since leaving his position as England’s head coach two days after the Three Lions’ loss to Spain in the Euro final on July 16, 2024, Southgate, 54, has been without a management position.

Furthermore, he has not yet returned to management despite being linked to other positions, including the Poland position.

However, after a dismal start to life at United, Southgate has been rumored to be in the running to succeed Ruben Amorim if the Portuguese manager is fired.

At odds of 4/1 as on August 27, Southgate and Oliver Glasner, the head coach of Crystal Palace, are tied for the position of next permanent United manager, while Michael Carrick, a former Red Devils midfielder, is 5/1.

What does Southgate think of the rumors, and if the chance arose, would he be open to rejoining the managerial team?

He has been connected to the United position previously since leaving his position as England manager, and in March 2024, he was even the clear favorite to succeed Erik ten Hag.

At the time, Southgate stated, “I think it is always completely disrespectful when there is a manager in place, and Manchester United has a manager.”

However, has his position evolved since his earlier remarks more than a year ago?

Southgate received the PFA Merit Award, which acknowledged his services to football and his accomplishments with England, at the PFA Awards in Manchester earlier this month.

Naturally, when asked about a possible comeback to management, Southgate was ready to disclose how he has been keeping himself occupied during his break from the game.

“I’m having fun,” Southgate said to the PA news agency. “I have a lot going on.

In addition to having other business interests, I’m currently working on a book. I assist several young coaches and work on leadership.

“Yeah, I really enjoy that balance, but I also have time to travel and play a little paddle tennis and golf.”

The 54-year-old said, “You can’t say never to anything because I left Middlesbrough 15 years ago and I wasn’t certain I would manage then,” in response to a direct question about his plans to resume coaching.

After that, I took an odd turn and became the national team’s manager. However, I’m not currently actively investigating it.
