According to GIVEMESPORT senior writer Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is still putting a lot of pressure on Jadon Sancho to quit the team despite interest from Serie A team Roma.
The English winger is among several United players who are surplus to needs and are anticipated to leave the team before the summer transfer window closes, including Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho.
Gianluca Di Marzio, a journalist for Sky Italy, reported earlier this week that Roma was still pursuing the United outcast’s signature. Sancho had taken part in several phone conversations with Gian Piero Gasperini, the head coach of the Giallorossi, but the 25-year-old was reportedly considering other, less certain options.
Sancho has just under one year left on his contract with the Red Devils, but the club are incredibly keen on offloading him this summer instead of waiting for his deal to expire.
Manchester United Still Pushing for Sancho Sale
Romano claims that Manchester United is still pressuring Jadon Sancho to depart the team “as soon as possible” because he is not part of head coach Ruben Amorim’s plans.
Although Sancho’s transfer to Serie A team Roma appeared to still be in the works earlier in the week, it now appears highly likely after the Italian team’s sporting director, Frederic Massara, made public remarks stating that while the club still has admiration for the player, the 25-year-old does not want to leave.
Despite the recent fallout between Sancho and Roma, Romano has stated that the Red Devils still want the English winger gone “as soon as possible,” and it is thought that United would accept an offer of around £20 million, which is the amount Roma was attempting to get a deal done with.
Romano said:
“Now the director of Roma goes public, says that Sancho doesn’t want to go. I can guarantee to you that Manchester United are still pushing for Jadon Sancho to go as soon as possible. Roma were offering £20m, so United for that money sell the player. United are trying to find a solution as soon as possible for Sancho, because they don’t want the player to stay at the club, and so they are pushing and pushing to find a solution as soon as possible for Jadon Sancho.”
Since the 2023–2024 season, when he made just three appearances in the first part of the season before returning to Borussia Dortmund on loan in the second half, Sancho has not played for United in the Premier League.
Despite having a reasonably good season on loan with Chelsea, United’s rival Premier League team, last season, the Stamford Bridge team declined the chance to extend his stay after contract talks broke down.
Time is running out for both Sancho and United to work out a deal with little over a week remaining in the European summer transfer window, but the Englishman’s wage demands may make that difficult.
