Jose Mourinho has previously made his feelings clear on managing Manchester United for a second time amid the Red Devils’ struggles under Ruben Amorim.
Amorim was under more pressure this week as League Two team Grimsby Town eliminated United from the Carabao Cup.
Bryan Mbeumo missed a vital penalty as Grimsby advanced by winning the shootout 12-11 on a terrible night for Amorim’s team.
Amorim, who appeared sad following United’s Carabao Cup defeat, is therefore starting to feel the pressure.
The Guardian claims that several in the United locker room are questioning the former Sporting Clube de Portugal head coach’s strategies and man-management abilities.
Furthermore, it has been implied that there is a sense that the 40-year-old might step down.
Fenerbahce, a team in the Turkish Super Lig, fired former United manager Jose Mourinho on Friday morning, adding gasoline to the already raging flames.
The decision was made after Portuguese team Benfica eliminated Fenerbahce from the Champions League with a 1-0 aggregate victory after two matches.
A statement from the club read: “Our Professional Football First Team’s technical director, Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us. We thank him for his efforts for our team until today and wish him success in his future career.”
Mourinho, who oversaw United from 2016 to 2018, will be among the names associated with the team as a result of his dismissal.
Mourinho won the League Cup and the Europa League while he was at Old Trafford, and he had the best Premier League result of second.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, the Portuguese has been one of United’s more successful managers.
It was stated back in May 2024 that Mourinho would be amenable to rejoining the Red Devils.
The 62-year-old “told confidants he would “walk” to Manchester to manage United for a second time,” according to Manchester Evening News.
Mourinho took charge of a total of 144 matches at United, with a record of 84 victories, 32 draws and 28 defeats, which equates to a win percentage of 58.33%.
