Jose Mourinho’s Premier League return inches closer as odds slashed on him joining new club

Jose Mourinho has already been linked with a Premier League return just one day after he was sacked by Fenerbahce.

Two days after the Istanbul team lost to Portuguese team Benfica in the Champions League play-offs, Mourinho, 62, was fired by the team.

The 62-year-old was Fenerbahce’s head coach for slightly over a year, however he was unable to win a championship during his tenure. In 2024–2025, Fenerbahce finished second in the Super Lig, behind city rivals Galatasaray.

During his tenure in Turkey, Mourinho had a number of outbursts against the refereeing standards, as is customary for him. According to reports, the three-time Premier League champion coach also had multiple transfer disputes with Fenerbahce’s management.

Rather of bringing an end to an 11-year league title drought, Mourinho’s tenure in Turkey ended without him winning a single trophy or “Intercontinental Derby” match.

On Thursday, the club issued a statement verifying the information.

“We have parted ways with Jose Mourinho,” read the statement.

“We thank him for his efforts for our team and wish him success in his future career.”

So, what next for the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’?

Having managed Chelsea, Manchester United, and Spurs in the Premier League, AS Roma and Inter in Serie A, Real Madrid in La Liga, Benfica, União Desportiva de Leiria, and Porto in Liga Portugal, Fenerbahce was Mourinho’s ninth club.

Given the current pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim, the 62-year-old has been linked to a return to Manchester United since leaving Fenerbahce.

Gareth Southgate and Oliver Glasner, to mention a couple, are far more likely to be the next permanent manager of United than he is.

However, Sky Bet reports that a possible transfer to West Ham United has poor chances of 15/8 because, similar to Amorim, Hammers head coach Graham Potter is under increasing pressure.

Potter, 50, has managed 23 games since joining West Ham last winter, winning six, drawing five, and losing twelve.
