Kobbie Mainoo will tell Manchester United he is still desperate to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes despite being told he must stay and fight for his place.
The England international has not been used as a substitute in United’s first two Premier League games of the new season against Arsenal and Fulham, despite playing the entire ninety minutes in Wednesday’s heartbreaking Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town.
Amorim disclosed last week that Bruno Fernandes and Mainoo are now directly vying for the same midfield spot.
Mainoo’s opportunities are likely to come off the bench because Fernandes wears the captain’s armband and has been practically undroppable since moving to Manchester.
Having been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s most recent team on Friday for forthcoming qualifiers, Mainoo is anxious to be included in the England squad for the World Cup next summer, but his circumstances at United threaten that.
In order to guarantee consistent first-team play this season, Mainoo has met with United and requested to depart the squad on loan.
The team has turned down his entreaties, advising him to stay and defend his spot because, should he go, they would have to find a replacement.
This week, United is attempting to handle a lot of concerns, including Mainoo’s future. On Friday, Amorim told reporters, “I want Kobbie to stay.” We need Kobbie, and he must battle for his position. Therefore, that won’t alter.
I’m not sure how the remainder will be resolved.
‘I understand that the players that are not playing in this moment are disappointed, but everyone has the same opportunity to play. You have to fight during the week.’
However, the Daily Mail claims that Mainoo is still attempting to push through a loan move in the last few days of the transfer window in spite of his manager’s remarks.
It is implied that Mainoo is not ready to fully sever relations with his boyhood team, even though sources indicate there is interest in a permanent trade to Napoli.
With Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund set to depart the team for Chelsea and Napoli, United is still attempting to unload Antony and Jadon Sancho with three days left in the summer transfer window.
