Kobbie Mainoo’s one specific demand to leave Manchester United for Chelsea has been revealed in a new report.
Mainoo, who played 60 games in the first squad after rising through the ranks at his boyhood club, has been negotiating a deal for a while.
According to a contract he signed back in February 2023, his current term continues until 2027; nonetheless, Capology claims that at £20,000 a week, he is still among United’s lowest-paid players.
Despite his present ailment, Mainoo and the team are reportedly in the process of negotiating a new deal. The England international and his team are eager for a substantial wage increase that is commensurate with his worth to the team.
Other teams, however, are keeping a careful eye on his circumstances; Chelsea is showing a special interest and has made “tentative contact” with his agents.
Since Mainoo is a homegrown player, United’s balance sheet would profit greatly from his sale. The Blues were connected to him back in January and could make another move for him.
Mainoo, however, is requesting about £180,000 per week at United and would like the same amount at Stamford Bridge, according to GiveMeSport.
That would put him ahead of Cole Palmer, the talisman for Chelsea, who makes £130,000 a week in west London.
However, Chelsea might be reluctant to add another high earner to their pay bill, thus the demands might deter them from making a deal.
According to reports, all sides may reach an agreement on terms of £150,000 a week, including bonuses, in the talks with United.
Along with Alejandro Garnacho, Mainoo is one of United’s greatest assets at the moment, with an estimated value of £80 million.
Journalist gives update on Mainoo
Alex Crook of talkSPORT feels that the amount that has been reported in relation to Mainoo’s contract negotiations is actually far lower than £180,000 per week.
He emphasized that although Mainoo loves United and does not want to go, the matter must be settled as quickly as possible.
According to Utd District, he stated, “I believe it’s closer to £150,000 per week, but once more, this is a sign that Manchester United are trying to trim the wage bill.”
“We know that when Amad Diallo signed his new contract, it was only—I use inverted commas here—100 grand per week, but it is clearly a lot less than what United has paid in the past.
“Mainoo, who adores the football team, is an academy product. He wants to remain at Manchester United, but it will just take an agreement and a review of the terms. In addition, there is the PSR issue, which United may need to address this summer.
