Given that Andreas Pereira is said to be leaving Fulham in the last week of the transfer window, Manchester United may be eligible for a little transfer windfall.
With less than a year left on his current contract at Craven Cottage, the Brazil international is being linked to a return to his native country before the window closes on September 1.
According to the Times, there is “expectation” that the midfield player will depart the team within the next ten days, even though Fulham has not accepted any bids for him. Pereira is apparently of interest to Palmeiras, a Brazilian team.
In fact, United may be eligible to get a share of the transfer fee that Fulham receives if the 29-year-old leaves Craven Cottage for a fee during the next ten days.
This is because when United agreed to sell the midfield player to Fulham in 2021 for a price of up to £10 million, they negotiated a sell-on clause.
The Brazilian played for United for 11 years, and although though he only made 45 Premier League appearances, United’s transfer chiefs arranged a condition that would give them a 20% cut of any money Fulham makes from the midfield player.
Naturally, it is unclear if Fulham could seek more than £10 million for a 29-year-old whose contract has less than 12 months left on it.
Manager Marko Silva responded that Fulham had been too “passive” when asked about the team’s activities in the transfer market last week.
“It’s not an ideal scenario,” said Silva. I didn’t expect us to be this passive. I knew what I wanted and the plan was there but it hasn’t happened. Right now we need to reinforce. In some positions we are very short.
“Did I expect it? Of course not, but the market is the market.”
