Alex Iwobi says Fulham were able to ‘exploit’ two Manchester United players as he dismantled Ruben Amorim’s tactics.
On Sunday, Fulham and Manchester United drew 1-1 at Craven Cottage.
Rodrigo Muniz’s own goal gave the Red Devils the lead. In the 73rd minute, Emile Smith Rowe, who entered the game two minutes prior to the goal, equalized.
Following Man United’s dominance in the first half, Fulham settled in and got into the game.
Marco Silva’s team managed to secure a point over Amorim’s team by executing a second-half strategy.
They were able to ‘exploit’ Man United’s two midfielders, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, Iwobi remarked after the game.
“The resilience to come back,” he said to Sky Sports when asked what he liked best about Fulham’s performance.
“We were aware that the bench might make a big difference. We are able to earn a nice point against a strong squad, and it is preferable to not lose.
“We knew that we would be able to get behind their two midfielders and that their centre-backs would want to jump – we exploited that today.”
Online supporters of Man United were shocked by Iwobi’s evaluation of Amorim’s setup.
“The proof is right there, our midfield can’t run,” one X user said. Invest in the job right away.
“Everyone knows this,” a second person said. This won’t function without a decent direct message. Please take quick action, Ineos, SJR @ManUtd.
“It doesn’t speak well of a coach when he has no tactical flexibility,” a rival supporter continued.
Ruben Amorim said Manchester United ‘forgot how we play’ after their goal
Man United dominated much of the match, including the first few minutes of Sunday’s league match.
Matheus Cunha struck the post after the visitors created numerous opportunities, prompting Bernd Leno to make a save.
Muniz turned a corner into his own net to give them the lead in the second half.
However, Amorim lamented his team’s strategy after they scored, saying they “forgot how we play” after gaining the lead.
Amorim clarified, “I think we scored the goal and then we forgot about how we play,”.
“It feels good to score a goal and have everyone on the field thinking, ‘Let’s hold onto the advantage and try to win the game.’ We want to win so badly.”
“In my opinion, that is the time to push the opposition and have more fun. We left a lot of room and attempted to press the opponent really high.”
“As a team, we need to mature a lot,” he continued. The fact that they worked so hard during the week and that we worked so hard today and will get better is, in my opinion, the most crucial thing.
“The moment that changed the game was our goal.”
