Man Utd in talks to make fifth summer signing after Ruben Amorim transfer update

Ruben Amorim is responding to calls for a new goalkeeper, while Manchester United is still in negotiations to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £17.3 million.

A transfer is imminent, and the focus of the ongoing discussions is on the terms of any agreement. According to Sky Sports, if the 23-year-old does move to Manchester, he is viewed as a long-term project rather than someone who would be selected right away.

Additionally, United is not interested in Lammens since they want to let rid of one of their present goalkeepers. In last Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal, Altay Bayindir filled in for Andre Onana, but his mistake ultimately proved to be a major factor in the outcome.

Onana has not persuaded throughout his two years in Manchester, and there were rumors last summer that he would go, but he is committed to staying and proving himself as soon as he is fully recovered.

After Sunday’s defeat, Amorim insisted that he was content with the goalkeeping options he had and that any new players would not force another goalkeeper to leave Manchester, as he presently had Onana, Bayindir, and Tom Heaton at his disposal.

“It’s not an idea that ‘these players are going to leave and then we’ll receive another player,'” the Portuguese manager stated. We are not waiting to remove someone in order to add another person [in], but we are unsure of what will happen.

“One thing is not responsible for the other. The players you’re talking about are not players who are training with the group in this moment. We have a group training so it’s not going to affect a lot.”

One of the people who insisted that his old team look for a new goalkeeper was Gary Neville. He insisted that the problem would persist and that their backline would suffer from the absence of a strong presence.

“There’s a glaring issue that Man United cannot ignore and it is the fact they need to find a goalkeeper. They have to,” said the Sky Sports pundit.

“I’m unequivocal on that because I had an experience with Man Utd for 20 years where there were two big periods of seven or eight years with Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar. In between, we had seven or eight goalkeepers in a six, seven, eight-year period and it is really unsettling when you haven’t got a dominant No 1.”
