Man Utd now eyeing deal for 25yo England star ahead of Tottenham – report

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher before the transfer deadline.

With the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko this summer, the Red Devils have concentrated on bolstering their attacking unit; nonetheless, they still struggle with midfield control.

According to Caught Offside, Man United is willing to compete with Spurs for Gallagher, who could be enticed away from Atletico for about £45 million before the transfer window ends.

Spurs are prepared to pay between £35 and £40 million for the midfield player, but Atletico seems set on the asking amount. United may make a last-minute move for the England international as they continue to keep an eye on Gallagher’s condition.

New midfielder

Casemiro has appeared fragile in the face of the intense media attention and is no longer at the height of his career. Manuel Ugarte has also had trouble being reliable and has lost possession on a frequent basis.

Although manager Ruben Amorim has already made it clear that the United graduate is vying for the number eight spot alongside the captain, Kobbie Mainoo may be a possibility in the middle of the park alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Before the deadline, United is probably going to look for a new midfield answer. Gallagher’s extensive Premier League experience and versatility as a midfield player make him a potentially valuable addition.

Last summer, the Premier League expressed interest in him, but Chelsea was pleased to move him overseas to Atletico. Operating from a left-sided midfield position, he enjoyed a successful rookie season. Diego Simeone’s playing style was well-suited to his intense pressing and effort rate.

The 25-year-old completed 87% of his passes in La Liga last season with 3.3 recoveries and 1.4 tackles per game. With Amorim already under fire following just one victory in four games this season, United need a midfield player who can adjust fast.

With Champions League football available, Spurs are in a stronger position, but United is still a major draw in international football and might entice the Englishman with the promise of a consistent starting place in a World Cup year.
