Man Utd outcast Antony responds as £21.6m transfer agreement pulled

After his move from Manchester United to Real Betis came to a standstill, Antony made a statement. Even though the Red Devils had agreed to terms, the La Liga team withdrew their offer in a statement on Friday.

The Brazilian star, who was on loan at Betis last season, was acquired for a reported £21.6 million. United would lose £60 million on the former Ajax star, and an additional £2.6 million would have to be paid in add-ons. However, the club would receive 50% of any future profits made by Betis from the sale of the 25-year-old.

But problems still existed. Antony has two years left on his Old Trafford contract, and he does not want to forfeit the considerable pay he receives. Antony is thought to be unwilling to forfeit what he stands to earn, and neither Betis nor United were prepared to make up the difference.

Late on Friday, Betis issued a statement saying: “There is no agreement and we have withdrawn the transfer offer because Real Betis can’t afford the transfer fee and the amounts that Manchester United must [instead] pay the player before the transfer.”

United officials think the Seville-based team’s position is just a negotiating ploy. As for Antony, he seems at ease.

The winger posted a picture of himself and his friends at what looks to be a restaurant on Instagram, filling his story with the image. Antony complemented his post with a perceptive remark.

“Among family and friends, life always has a big surprise in store for us,” he wrote.

During the winter transfer window, Antony joined the Spanish team on loan, and he excelled while he was there. The Brazil international seems to have developed a close bond with the team and led it to the UEFA Conference League final, where Chelsea defeated them.

This summer, he made a comeback to Manchester as a member of the team’s ‘bomb squad’. Along with Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho, Antony was excluded from first team practice.

Since then, Rashford has gone on loan to Barcelona, and Garnacho has been acquired by Chelsea for £40 million. With only a few days left in the transfer window, Antony now appears to be in the same precarious situation as the other two players.
