Manchester United eye young midfielder to support Bruno Fernandes in new role

The hiring of Ruben Amorim seems to have had no impact on Manchester United’s poor performance over the previous few seasons. In his first 28 Premier League games as Red Devils boss, the Portuguese coach has already suffered 15 defeats. With fresh additions this year, they are attempting to strengthen their offensive and make improvements.

Diego Leon, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko have already joined United. This season, Amorim has concentrated on resolving the scoring issue. However, the midfield is still an area that requires attention. According to reports, the Old Trafford team has inquired about Brazilian prodigy Andrey Santos from Chelsea because they want to use him to help captain Bruno Fernandes in the middle.

Why Andrey Santos?

The 21-year-old made an impression with his passing and tackling when on loan at Strasbourg the previous season. His ability to win the ball and initiate assaults has earned him the moniker “monster” in midfield. In the first game against Arsenal, Amorim gave Bruno a more involved position, and United thinks having a ball-winning midfielder beside him may benefit the club.

United is hoping to make a deal before the September transfer window shuts. Chelsea might not be prepared to sell Santos just yet, though. Last season, he participated in 32 games and scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists. Santos averaged 4.7 progressive passes and 1.3 passes into the last third of each game, according to FBref, and had an 88 percent pass accuracy rate.
