Manchester United will sanction a late departure for 20-year-old English international Kobbie Mainoo if they sign his replacement before the summer transfer window closes.

Napoli is reportedly interested in Kobbie Mainoo, according to a report by Football Insider. In the last days of the summer transfer market, the Serie A champions are eager to strengthen their midfield. Thus, the Partenopei have made the 20-year-old Manchester United star their objective.

Manchester United has changed its mind about accepting bids for the young Englishman, despite recent suggestions to the contrary. If the Red Devils sign a replacement before Monday’s summer transfer window deadline, they are willing to approve Mainoo’s departure.

Kobbie Mainoo and his situation

With every month that has gone by this year, Kobbie Mainoo’s frustration at Manchester United has grown. Since Ruben Amorim replaced the Dutch strategist over a year ago, the 20-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup, despite enjoying his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag. Furthermore, the young midfielder’s situation has not been improved by fitness concerns.

This weekend marked the English international’s Premier League debut; he has only achieved 135 minutes of playing time so far in the 2025–26 campaign. Napoli is one among the potential suitors fighting for Mainoo’s signature in the closing days of the summer transfer season, although his stock in the market is still strong.

Serie A adventure beckons?

It makes sense that Napoli is interested in Kobbie Mainoo. Antonio Conte wants additional alternatives in the middle of the pitch even though his midfield is crowded. The Napoli boss is drawn to the Manchester United prodigy’s young enthusiasm and well-rounded style of play.

The Englishman is reportedly a key target for the Serie A champions, who have reportedly already made contact and discussed a potential deal for Mainoo. Although Manchester United first resisted the allure of making a tidy profit from the departure of the indigenous midfield player, their position has since changed.

The Red Devils are open to a late exit if they sign a replacement in the final hours of the summer transfer window. With the English international pushing for a departure to save his World Cup dreams, it will be interesting to see if he joins Napoli in the coming 36 hours.
