Manchester United has had a peculiar start to the Premier League season. Despite their encouraging efforts, they have not yet secured their first victory of the 2025–2026 season.
Even though Ruben Amorim has his team playing a good style of football, it won’t matter if they don’t get results. The Portuguese strategist will be eager to make a move as quickly as possible.
Bruno Fernandes is one player who, at least creatively, appears to have fallen out of favor under Amorim this season. He is playing as a deep-lying playmaker and is being used in a deeper midfield role.
The #8 has spent a large portion of his career at Old Trafford playing as an attacking midfielder, and occasionally he has even played as a false nine. He has scored many goals in each season and has been the team’s only creative source.
The Portuguese international is now willing to accept to leave and join Al-Ittihad this summer, according to The Sun, and wants to sign a record-breaking contract worth about £635,000 per week (£33 million annually). For Bruno, that is a substantial financial bundle.
Al-Hilal had already shown interest in Fernandes, who is thirty years old. Although Bruno did not consider moving to the SPL at the time, constructive discussions over a possible transfer have been had with Al-Ittihad, and this summer it appears that this is a viable possibility.
In the campaign’s first two games, Bruno hasn’t looked his best. The 30-year-old still needs to get used to playing defensive midfield.
He may decide that now is the ideal moment to leave the ship and relocate.
What lies ahead for Bruno should become more apparent in the days ahead.
If he was to leave this close to the end of the window, Man Utd will have to hunt hard for a replacement and only time will tell how this develops.
