Manchester United are still working on several exits before Monday’s deadline, but they can already spot the finish line in the Rasmus Hojlund affair.
Last season, Ruben Amorim was not persuaded by the Dane. Even though he was a consistent starter, he only managed to score four goals in the Premier League and 10 goals overall. Because there were no other options, the Portuguese manager kept supporting the 22-year-old, but when Benjamin Sesko arrived, everything changed right away.
Hojlund hasn’t played in a Man Utd game since the Slovenian arrived in Carrington, and Amorim has made it clear that he needs to find a new team.
Napoli identified Hojlund as Lukaku’s replacement
Romelu Lukaku’s terrible injury earlier this month forced Napoli to return to the market, and they immediately identified Hojlund as their main target. As they say, “one man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity.”
Even Scott McTominay is credited with acting as a “secret agent” and persuading Hojlund to rejoin him in Southern Italy during the so-far successful negotiations between the two teams.
Gianluca Di Marzio, a writer at Sky Sport Italia, claims that Man United and Napoli have already reached a consensus over the formula and the numbers.
Man United & Napoli shook hands for Rasmus Hojlund
The Danish international will join the Serie A winners on loan for €6 million, with a buyout option that would become mandatory if the team qualified for the Champions League. Napoli would have to pay a further €44 million to get the player, bringing the total to €50 million (around £43 million).
According to Di Marzio, if all goes as planned, the transfer might be finalized “tonight” (Saturday). However, there are still some technicalities to work out in the agreement between the player’s agency and the Partenopei, including commissions.
As they continue to negotiate a contract for Senne Lammens, Man United would benefit from this opportune boost as they continue to hope to add a new goalkeeper. Additionally, it’s unclear if they’ll be able to strengthen their midfield in the next 48 hours, particularly if Kobbie Mainoo is adamant about going on loan.
