“Sources believe” – Journalist reveals Spurs talks over last-gasp move for £60m Man Utd star

Kobbie Mainoo has requested to leave Manchester United before the transfer season ends, and Tottenham Hotspur has apparently been talking about a possible move for him.

According to Dean Jones, GIVEMESPORT’s Senior Transfer News Correspondent, Spurs have “had talks about moving for Mainoo”. After becoming dissatisfied with his lack of first-team opportunities under Ruben Amorim, the English midfielder’s future is in doubt.

After winning the Europa League the previous season, Thomas Frank’s Lilywhites have had a fantastic start to the season and are making some exciting additions. With the arrival of Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus to reinforce their team, the club is now keeping an eye on Mainoo.

Tottenham Hold Discussions Over Possible Mainoo Move

In order to gain more playing time before the World Cup next summer, Mainoo had asked to be sent out on loan by United. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are adamant that he cannot leave and that he must compete for a spot on Amorim’s squad.

Tottenham is prepared to make a move for the 20-year-old if the chance presents itself, and they are involved should that position change. On X, Jones wrote:

“Tottenham has discussed moving for Kobbie Mainoo in the event that he leaves United.” That hasn’t happened as of yet. According to certain United sources, this may perhaps give his time at OT fresh life and result in a new contract.

After Spurs lost out on Eberechi Eze, who chose to join rivals Arsenal, Mainoo allegedly became a possible £60 million target. Simons, an offensive midfielder, joined from RB Leipzig for £51 million.

Despite having two highly renowned playmakers on his side, Daniel Levy’s North Londoners seem to like Mainoo. This season, the United academy graduate has only made one appearance, during the Red Devils’ humiliating loss to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

It’s not known whether the Lilywhites would be interested in signing one of English football’s brightest prospects on loan or if they will only move for a permanent deal. He has been in a lengthy dispute over a new contract with his current deal up in the summer of 2027.
