Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United appears to be drawing to a close, with the club actively working on an exit strategy for the out of favour winger, sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside.
The winger’s future away from Old Trafford is all but certain because manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that Sancho is not part of his long-term plans, even though his contract is set to expire in 2026.
Roma had been the front-runner in the race for Sancho for weeks. The player and Sporting director Frederic Massara have had direct conversations in an attempt to persuade him to transfer to Italy. Even the specifics of a transaction worth €18 million including bonuses were agreed upon by Roma and Man United about a month ago.
Jadon Sancho was not interested in joining AS Roma
However, because to issues on the player’s end, the negotiations broke down. Despite Sancho’s lack of excitement for the move, his agents requested commissions over €10 million.
Sancho was offered €5 million a year by Roma, and manager Gian Piero Gasperini was pressing for the deal because he thought he would be a valuable addition to their offensive line. Sancho was still hesitant, though, as he preferred a Champions League team.
The player who scored five goals on loan at Chelsea last season had expressed more flexibility in negotiations with Juventus, even accepting to a pay cut. However, that possible transfer fell through.
Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid kept an eye on his circumstances as well, but withdrew due to exorbitant agent fees and financial demands.
Man United winger could be heading to Besiktas soon
Besiktas has now become an unexpected late challenger. Their extended transfer window, which is open until September 12—long after much of Europe has closed—is something the Turkish powerhouses are eager to take advantage of.
Since Besiktas and United have already agreed on the transfer fee, Sancho’s decision is the only factor influencing the move. If the winger approves, the trade may be completed quickly, giving Sancho the chance to start over in Istanbul.
