Sources: Man Utd player could ‘debut this week’ for another club after ‘breakthrough’ in talks

The dream move of Rasmus Hojlund is set to end with a whimper as the Danish striker’s move away from Man Utd is developing rapidly, United in Focus understands.

Since Benjamin Sesko’s transfer took off, Rasmus Hojlund’s stock has plummeted during the past two weeks.

He didn’t play in the previous friendly and has been totally missing from the team for the last two league games.

Hojlund was destined to go amid interest from AC Milan, and he is, but not for Milan, as negotiations with another team have advanced.

Rasmus Hojlund close to joining Napoli

Given that Romelu Lukaku’s injury has pushed Napoli to make a big move for Hojlund, Man Utd has benefited from the actions of one of their former players.

Legends of Milan boasted about the team and the reasons Hojlund should go out of his way to join them, but Antonio Conte’s Napoli has done it with surgical accuracy.

According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, who was interviewed by United in Focus, Napoli’s efforts have paid off, as a breakthrough in negotiations for the player has been made.

In order to resolve the player’s future, United and the player pushed on an obligation to purchase. A settlement has been struck that guarantees the option will become an obligation with favorable terms.

He could be available for his debut this weekend in a remarkable turn of momentum.

Bailey said: “Napoli have been progressing with their talks with Manchester United over Rasmus Hojlund. The deal will include an option worth £40million that can become an obligation if certain criteria is met – not the full obligation that United had initially insisted on.

“But following talks, Napoli have reached a breakthrough and a deal is now close, with Hojlund making it clear to United that he wanted to join Napoli.

“Antonio Conte has spoken to Hojlund about his prospective role in Naples. Milan revisited the deal after Victor Boniface’s move collapsed, but we are told that the Rossoneri were informed that Hojlund’s move to Napoli was in place and that he would not consider anyone else.

“Hojlund’s move is very close now, and if all goes to plan, he will be a Napoli player within days and will be available to make his debut this weekend.”

Hojlund can prove doubters wrong in Italy

Given that Scott McTominay is now a contender for the Ballon d’Or, Manchester United supporters are accustomed to seeing a player leave Old Trafford for Napoli and go on to become a superstar.

The player may rest easy knowing that the manager has a precise plan in place to maximize his skills if Conte wants him.

Although Hojlund did not aid his case at United, it is equally indisputable that United did little to assist him in bettering his own situation.

Despite being hurt when he arrived, he was pushed into the deep end right away and told to perform in a dysfunctional squad where everyone save a select few suffered greatly.

In a slower league, under a manager who trusts him fully and in a team that plays to his strengths, expect him to rediscover his fire.

He’s still a player who was the apple of the eye of Europe before United splashed £72m on him.
