Manchester United are struggling to get it right. There could be one logical change Ruben Amorim won’t consider.
Manchester United supporters are attempting to remain calm despite the team only picking up one point in two games this season. There has only been one goal, and it was an own goal.
A little misfortune has struck. United has twice struck the woodwork and missed a penalty. However, it is evident that the team has a long way to go.
More importantly, this goes beyond two games. It is a continuation of Ruben Amorim’s 2024–2025 issues.
You could argue that all of that ought to be disregarded. However, it is extremely difficult when there is no improvement, at least in terms of outcomes.
Before United travels to play City, a matchup against Burnley is like a banana skin just ready to be put on.
One thing we do know is that Ruben Amorim won’t change his ways and move away from his 3-4-2-1 formation. But perhaps he should?
How United would look now in 4-3-3
The new players Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko have changed Manchester United’s roster from the previous campaign.
Because of Ruben Amorim’s commitment to his current system, United supporters may never get the chance to observe how this “new” team would appear in a 4-3-3 configuration.
With Bryan Mbeumo on the right flank and Benjamin Sesko in the front, we have simulated how United might appear in this lineup.
Despite not being a good fit for the left wing, Matheus Cunha is intelligent enough to make it work and may trade positions with Bruno Fernandes, who is now a member of a three-man midfield.
Kobbie Mainoo could play with Fernandes and Casemiro if there were three midfielders. He made his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag in this system.
With Noussair Mazraoui as the preferred right-back, United has the defensive alternatives to execute a back four with ease. Patrick Dorgu would battle with Luke Shaw at left-back, while Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt would make the ideal central defense duo.
With this system, Amad would lose out, but he would probably have more possibilities as a substitute than Mainoo has right now.
Additionally, there is a good possibility that United would win more games given the system’s demonstrated ease.
Whisper it too – if he is not sold, there might even be a future for Alejandro Garnacho, if wingers are back in use.

Amorim will go out his way, win or lose
Ruben Amorim will not change, despite the temptation—or, dare we say, logic—to use a 4-3-3.
Last season, Amorim repeatedly retaliated against calls to change his philosophy for a more practical approach, even if only temporarily.
Win or lose, he was adamant on doing things his own way. No matter how bad things become, don’t expect him to change this strategy.
Amorim has just tried to instill his system in his players during the entire preseason. And he will keep doing it. It’s also important to keep in mind that the assault is brand-new, therefore they must get along with each other and the rest of the team.
It takes time for something to occur. Benjamin Sesko, the new striker, has yet to start a match.
However, the harsh reality is that if Amorim’s plan ultimately fails and he dies fighting, a new manager will be left with a team that might actually be more suited to 4-3-3.
