At Old Trafford on Saturday, Manchester United defeated Burnley 3-2 in an exciting Premier League match.
If not for several blatant misses and excellent goalkeeping by former loanee Martin Dubravka, the hosts should have been out of sight in the first half.
Burnley equalized early in the second half, but the Red Devils took the lead thanks to another own goal. The sheer volume of wasted opportunities in the first forty-five minutes always seemed to be a sucker hit.
Bryan Mbeumo scored his second goal for the team after his first against Grimsby Town in the middle of the week as Ruben Amorim’s team reacted immediately.
But the lead lasted only 10 minutes as the Clarets equalised again after some less-than-stellar goalkeeping from Altay Bayindir.
United should’ve scored a lot more
It appeared that another draw would be inevitable at that point, but Bruno Fernandes, the captain, converted Amad’s late penalty to relieve pressure on his countryman.
The attacking stars’ interaction and the opportunities they created from open play were among the many excellent aspects.
From a fan’s point of view, their effect from corners was impressive, even though the head coach will have been impressed.
Although United’s supporters have long witnessed other teams exploit their set-piece weakness, United had at least three corner goals against Burnley.
New corner routine looked very dangerous
Additionally, their new pattern, in which everyone rushes forward to leave one man open on the edge of the box, worked like a treat each time, rather than constantly harassing the goalie.
The captain’s attempt missed by inches, but Amad’s perfectly executed volley forced Dubravka to work. Given how many opportunities the squad continues to miss, it is hoped that having multiple routines will help them.
Given that the 20-time English league champions had 26 shots but only won thanks to a last-minute penalty, Amorim will be worried about the team’s performance in front of goal.
With Bayindir making his second mistake in three league games, the goalkeeping problem is still a concern. We can’t wait for Senne Lammens.
