Former Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has spoken out for the first time since leaving the club to join Chelsea.
Garnacho eventually won a move from United to Premier League rivals Chelsea on Saturday, following a protracted summer transfer market that saw him linked to other clubs throughout Europe.
According to reports, the Argentina international inked a deal that will keep him with United until 2032 in exchange for a £40 million transfer fee and a 10% sell-on clause.
Following the announcement of the move, Garnacho has posted on social media about joining his new team, stating that it was an incredible feeling to do so after having supported them for part of his childhood.
However, in his first statement against his old team since the contentious switch, he has finally addressed United supporters directly.
Garnacho made 144 appearances and scored 26 goals during his five years at United, but the move came about because head coach Ruben Amorim recently barred him from the team.
Despite this, the 21-year-old had nothing but good things to say about his former club, writing on Instagram: “Dear Mánchester
“After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close. We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this.
“To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had.
“I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what’s to come. Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career.”
Several other United players who recently had a falling out with Amorim have also obtained deals away from the club this summer, in addition to Garnacho.
Marcus Rashford, an England international, made his dream transfer to La Liga champion Barcelona early in the transfer window. He will join the Spanish team on a season-long loan with a £30.3 million buyout option.
Jadon Sancho left on deadline day to sign a season-long loan with Premier League rivals Aston Villa, and Antony, who had a successful loan in the later part of last season, is expected to sign a £25 million contract with La Liga team Real Betis that includes a 50% sell-on clause.
