According to GIVEMESPORT senior journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has been negotiating Emiliano Martinez’s arrival with Aston Villa all day Sunday.
With a personal terms agreement already in place, the Old Trafford team hopes to sign the 32-year-old goalkeeper before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Martinez, who has nearly four years left on his £150,000-per-week deal, has expressed his wish to quit Aston Villa despite missing Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
Jadon Sancho is a “crucial” component in negotiations, according to Romano, who says clubs are now in talks over a possible swap deal that could see the England international move to Villa Park on deadline day.
Man United Keen on Emiliano Martinez
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Man United are continuing to push for Martinez’s arrival on deadline day, with negotiations between the clubs ongoing.
“Dibu Martinez has agreed personal terms. Didn’t play tonight, and he really wants to leave Aston Villa and to go to Manchester United.
“So we will be following that story. But trust me, the deal is on. Remember Sancho. Don’t forget Jadon Sancho, because Aston Villa and Manchester United are talking about Jadon Sancho as a potential part of this deal for Dibu Martinez.
“So Jaden Sancho could be a crucial factor in understanding if the deal is going to happen or is not going to happen for Dibu Martinez. This is a crucial step.
“But I can guarantee that today, Sunday, Manchester United and Aston Villa have spent the whole day negotiating for Emiliano Martinez.”
Villa turned down United’s loan offer for Martinez in July, stating that they would probably need to sign a replacement before letting him go at this late date.
Senne Lammens, a goalkeeper for Royal Antwerp who is also viewed as a Martinez substitute for the Red Devils, is reportedly of interest to Unai Emery’s team.
Since moving from Arsenal to Villa in 2020, Martinez has made 213 appearances, recording 70 clean sheets and giving up 257 goals.
