Man Utd ‘decide’ January transfer priority after missing out on deadline day deal

Manchester United have already identified their top transfer target for the winter window after making a late move on deadline day.

With scores of well-known players securing moves, the summer transfer window officially concluded late Monday night after almost three months of rumors and dramatic transactions.

Clubs in the Premier League were busy during the window, with teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and City all making deals until the last minute.

On the day of the deadline, Liverpool acquired their ideal addition in Alexander Isak, Arsenal acquired Piero Hincapie, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, City acquired Gianluigi Donnarumma, and United acquired Senne Lammens as their new goalkeeper.

However, United also sought another player who, after failing to reach an agreement before the deadline, is expected to be their top target come wintertime.

The transfer window, which closed on September 1 at 19:00 BST, will now be closed for four months until Thursday, January 1, 2026, when it will reopen on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 19:00 GMT.

Additionally, Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail claims that United may be keen to finalize a transfer for Conor Gallagher, a midfielder for Atletico Madrid, as soon as possible.

United reportedly asked about a loan transfer for the former Chelsea and Crystal Palace player, but was informed that only a permanent sale would be taken into consideration, according to the report.

United determined that this was not feasible this summer, but they are still interested in a move in the future, having previously secured deals for Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon, and Lammens.

United is expected to prioritize midfield in the January transfer window or next summer, so if they think a move for Gallagher is still feasible, they will probably consider it again.

It’s hardly surprising that United would be interested in the England international, who has made 136 appearances in the Premier League and played in all three of Atletico Madrid’s first La Liga games.

However, Everton and former team Crystal Palace are also rumored to have looked into a deal for the 25-year-old this summer, so it’s probable that United won’t be the only English team interested in a future.
