Man Utd refuse to answer Senne Lammens questions after completing £18m transfer

Before his anticipated transfer to Old Trafford, Manchester United has declined to clarify if Senne Lammens will start as Ruben Amorim’s goalkeeper. The Premier League team has agreed to pay Royal Antwerp £18.2 million to acquire the Belgian goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract and is traveling to Manchester to complete the transfer before the deadline of 7 p.m. tonight. Insiders at Old Trafford believe Lammens has a lot of potential as a young goalie. the Manchester Evening News, but he would not confirm if he will be the first pick. The Red Devils are still certain that Lammens is the ideal addition, despite having considered a possible swoop for Emiliano Martinez.

Ruben Amorim acknowledged on Saturday that it is “hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment,” raising doubts about whether Lammens would take over United’s starting lineup right away.

“Guys, they are humans,” the 40-year-old said. “Manchester United, everything is huge. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper. And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper in the situations that happen. We are in that moment.

“I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better. We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don’t do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.

“All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper. So, the players are struggling a little bit with all the things around the club. That is normal. So it’s not just the goalkeepers. I think everybody has to improve.”

Four of United’s six goals this season have come from goalkeeping errors, two of which were committed by Altay Bayindir and two more by Andre Onana. Onana is adamant about staying at Manchester United, but his future is uncertain now that the transfer window has closed.

Following an unsuccessful loan attempt for Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa and United’s assurances that a new keeper was not a priority, the 29-year-old goalie felt secure in his role at the club. On deadline day, though, United contemplated signing the Argentine before concluding a Lammens deal with Antwerp.

After making mistakes in the devastating loss to Grimsby Town in the second round of the League Cup, Onana was benched during United’s 3-2 Premier League triumph over Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday. Amorim’s opinion of Onana has evolved during the course of United’s search for a new goalkeeper this year.
