A new goalie is on the way to Manchester United.
After acquiring Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, Ruben Amorim reiterated that improving in other areas was still a top focus.
However, Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have already made high-profile errors this season, so it’s time for a change in goal.
Manchester United set to welcome new goalkeeper to the club
The Red Devils appear to have been compelled to intervene after Bayindir’s error against Arsenal on the first day of the season and Onana’s two mistakes against League Two Grimsby Town.
After renewing his contract in the summer, Tom Heaton is still with the team, although despite making appearances during preseason, he has not been offered any opportunities under Amorim. However, INEOS appears to have acquired their fifth summer signing with just hours remaining in the transfer window.
Senne Lammens, the goalkeeper for Royal Antwerp, is expected to join Manchester United, according to The Athletic. The two clubs have agreed on a fee of €21 million (£18.2 million) plus €4 million (£3.4 million) in add-ons; there is no sell-on clause.
Lammens, 23, will join Cunha, Sesko, Mbeumo, and Diego Leon at Old Trafford this summer after agreeing to a five-year contract.
According to sources, Amorim’s attitude toward his goalkeepers shifted following their loss against Arsenal on the first weekend, where Bayindir was responsible for the game’s lone goal.
Although personal conditions had already been agreed upon with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, Lammens appears to have been the first pick, and the Manchester United-Villans negotiations have now cooled.
According to FourFourTwo, Manchester United’s top summertime objective should have been to buy a goalkeeper and at least one new midfield player.
The fact that both positions are still not resolved before Deadline Day is alarming to say the least, especially given the club has spent so heavily in other areas.
