Tyrell Malacia could remain at Manchester United beyond transfer deadline day after talks over a loan move to Elche collapsed.
In order to concentrate on a transfer exit, Ruben Amorim declared the 26-year-old surplus to requirements at the beginning of the summer and exempted him from reporting for preseason training.
Elche attempted to sign Malacia prior to tonight’s transfer deadline, but it is believed that negotiations have now “collapsed” because the parties could not agree on a permanent transfer option for the following year. The La Liga team started talks late last week, but over the weekend, the talks went down. Elche will now attempt to recruit Adria Pedrosa, a defender for Sevilla, in the closing hours of the transfer market.
Malacia could still be sold by United to a Saudi or Turkish team, as both transfer windows remain open until the next week. He is unlikely to depart Old Trafford on the day of the deadline, though.
It implies that the Dutch defender will probably be the only member of the “bomb squad” who remains with the team after the European transfer window closes. Alejandro Garnacho finalized his permanent transfer to Chelsea over the weekend, while Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan with the possibility of a permanent deal.
Rasmus Hojlund is about to finish his season-long loan to Napoli, with a commitment to extend it permanently next summer if the Serie A team qualifies for the Champions League. United has also agreed to sell Antony to Real Betis on deadline day.
With United expected to finalize the acquisition of goalkeeper Senne Lammens before the 7 p.m. deadline, it is expected to be a busy finale to transfer day. After reaching a comprehensive deal, United will pay Royal Antwerp a set fee of £18.2 million plus add-ons for the Belgian goalkeeper. Lammens has already reached a five-year agreement on personal terms.
