The Red Devils defeated Burnley 3-2 at home on Saturday afternoon, and after the transfer market closes, focus will shift to the international break. In mid-September, when Premier League play resumes, United will play Manchester City again.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and United have reached a personal agreement for United to bring in some new players before that match. He was absent from Sunday night’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace while the two teams try to come to an understanding.
According to sources, Angelo Stiller is expected to remain at Stuttgart, making a trade for him seem implausible.
With a medical finished on Sunday afternoon, one of the players United wants to let go before the deadline appears to be finalized without incident.
Rasmus Hojlund completes Napoli medical
Rasmus Hojlund, a striker for United, has finished his physical at Napoli in preparation for a possible transfer to the Serie A team, according to Sky Sports. A conditional commitment to purchase £43 million is part of the move.
Hojlund was acquired by United for £72 million two years ago, but after a turbulent 2024–25 season, the Danish attacker was judged surplus to needs after Benjamin Sesko joined.
Although the RB Leipzig striker has not yet started a Premier League match for United, Hojlund was ranked lower than both him and Joshua Zirkzee.
Explaining his decision making over Sesko’s game-time, manager Ruben Amorim said after the win over Burnley: “Everything is connected. So he finished the game [against Grimsby] with cramps, really in the limit and that’s why we protected Ben from the penalties and today was that reason also because Josh [Zirkzee] is also a striker, an international striker.
“But I was thinking that Ben during the pre-season didn’t do 90 minutes and he did that even against a fourth-division team. He did that on Wednesday. With the problem of Cunha, you don’t know if that full game in the middle of the week has something to do with the injury today.
“With the problem with Mason Mount, I was not risking another player not knowing if they are able to play so many minutes. So everything was connected – the penalty, the game on Wednesday and the number of minutes I was thinking for Ben today.”
