Mainoo starts, four at the back: The new formation Ruben Amorim has to try at Manchester United – gallery

Man Utd have reached a new low under Ruben Amorim after defeat to Grimsby Town.

After Manchester United’s midweek Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town, head coach Ruben Amorim is under a lot of fire. United lost an incredible penalty shootout after being second best during the match at Blundell Park, and they deserved it.

With a League 2 team tearing apart Amorim’s tactical setup, the lackluster performance cast more doubt on his suitability for the head coach position. Although they may contend that a formation that isn’t suited to their skill set is forcing them to fail, United’s players must also shoulder a large portion of the blame.

It seems like Amorim will need to try something new if he is to transform United’s fortunes around, and here is a look at one formation they could use to get more from the players currently at their disposal.
